Simple Salt Dough Recipe for Crafting Fun with the Family

The holiday season is upon us so, we've gone looking for the most inexpensive holiday fun we could find! We've made this one since we were children and thought we'd share it so you can make memories of your own this year!

Salt dough is an easy, inexpensive material perfect for crafting, especially with kids. It can be used to make ornaments, handprints, decorations, and more! Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.

  2. Add Water: Gradually add the water to the dry mixture, stirring as you go. Continue to mix until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until smooth and pliable.

  4. Shape Your Creations: Now, the fun begins! Use your hands or rolling pin to shape the dough into your desired craft—whether it’s ornaments, figurines, or handprints.

  5. Bake to Set: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Place your dough creations on a baking sheet and bake for 1-2 hours, depending on their thickness. They’re done when they feel hard and dry to the touch.

  6. Cool & Decorate: Let your salt dough crafts cool completely before painting or decorating.

Enjoy your salt dough creations! This simple recipe is a great way to bond with family, and it’s perfect for kids’ activities or handmade gifts.
